Entry-level EVs stick to basic rear seatbelt reminders (NOTE: MG COMET RESULT DELETED)

Updated: May 23

Update as of March 2025: New information suggests that the Comet might include occupant detection, and since Gobar NCRAP's result for the Comet was based on a potentially unreliable anecdote (since its owner's manual does not have the required information), Gobar NCRAP has removed the MG Comet result from the website until more credible information can be obtained.

Today, Gobar NCRAP is releasing the results for six entry-level EVs.

The affordable MG COMET, Tata TIAGO.EV and Tata TIGOR.EV all receive only C-grades for rear seat belt reminders. They lack occupAnt detection and activate both their audio and visual signals for unbuckled seats without waiting for a change in belt status. None of the three have curtain airbags, but they do have ISOFIX anchorages, although none of their seating positions are i-Size approved.

Climbing up the price ladder, mixed results are seen on the Tata PUNCH.EV and Citroën ë-C3. Although the Tata receives C-grade for its rear seat belt reminders, it does have curtain airbags and i-Size seating positions. On the other hand, the electric Citroën, which did not receive the optional safety upgrades made to its ICE counterpart last year, winds up at the bottom, with D grades across the board.
