Safety Gala with Kia Carnival!

ree

Today on Gobar NCRAP: the Kia Carnival returns to India with new safety features. The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and S-Presso get ESC. And the Citroen C3 gets a major safety boost — only if you pay extra.

Kia Carnival

The new Carnival adds seatbelt reminders for the rear seats, two kinds of blind spot information: a warning lamp in the wing mirror and a camera feed in the instrument cluster, as well as more advanced functions like automatic emergency braking and lane support. It also has a centre airbag between the front seats, which can reduce the extent to which the head of an occupant on the far side of a side impact crash moves. There's also a knee airbag for the driver! Gobar NCRAP's verdict: BEST PICK.

But what can the Carnival do better? For starters, it isn't universally approved for use with i-Size child restraints, being compatible with only those ISOFIX child restraints on whose reference lists it is featured. Also, although early, there hasn't been news of independent local consumer crash testing.

Citroen C3: update

Higher variants of the updated Citroen C3 get new safety features like three-point belts with reminders for all seats, ISOFIX anchorages (also i-Size compatible), and side thorax and head airbags. Gobar NCRAP's verdict: RECOMMENDED.

Sadly, in a bid to keep the entry price competitive, Citroen have not made these changes to the base C3 'Live'. Gobar NCRAP's verdict: NOT RECOMMENDED.

Maruti Suzuki S-PRESSO and ALTO K10

The Maruti Suzuki S-PRESSO and ALTO K10 now have ESC. Deficiencies in other areas of safety, like the lack of a three-point seatbelt in all seats, keep them at NOT RECOMMENDED, as is ubiquitous in the segment.
