Safety Off Track for Some Off-Roaders

ree

Today, Gobar NCRAP publishes ratings for three small off-road vehicles.

The popular Mahindra Thar does well for itself, with an overall rating of 'Recommended' with optional equipment, complementing its crashworthiness credentials. The basic version settles for a 'Fair' rating, in part due to the lack of electronic stability control.

Although the recently announced Suzuki Jimny is not on sale yet, Maruti Suzuki NEXA have recently made the safety specification available on their website. Both variants of the hotly anticipated off-roader also receive a rating of 'Recommended'.

Unfortunately, the Force Gurkha winds up at the bottom of the pack. The second generation of the enthusiast favourite is sold without so much as automatic retractors for the rear seatbelts, and despite some surprising inclusions like ISOFIX anchorages, it still earns the lowest rating: 'Not Recommended'.
