Today, Gobar NCRAP is releasing the results of the 2025 Gobar Gradings for three entry-level premium SUVs.
The Hyundai TUCSON receives a B-grade for its rear seatbelt reminders because they can detect occupants only in the rear outboard seats but not in the centre seat, which relies on a change of belt status instead. The Tucson sold in India also does not have i-Size seating positions, unlike versions sold in Europe, and more recently, Latin America.
At both ends of this release are the Citroën C5 AIRCROSS and BYD ATTO 3. While the former activates its audio-visual seatbelt reminders only with change in rear belt status and winds up with a C-grade, the latter can detect occupants in all seats and receives an A. What the two SUVs have in common is that they each have three i-Size seating positions that can be used simultaneously. However, parents should note that the front passenger airbag must be disabled using a switch before installing a rearward-facing child restraint on the front passenger seat. Placing a rearward-facing child restraint on a seat with an active frontal airbag poses a risk of death or serious injury!
The outgoing Volkswagen TIGUAN Mk2 was originally planned for this release but local assembly of the model has since ceased.
