Gobar NCRAP has published new safety feature comparisons for compact SUVs and hatchbacks following safety updates to the Tata Nexon, Tata nexon.ev, Hyundai i20 and Hyundai Venue.
The new Tata Nexon and nexon.ev bring a host of safety improvements as standard equipment, including three-point safety belts for all occupants, seatbelt reminders (with occupant detection) for the rear seats, side body airbags, head curtain airbags, and i-Size anchorages with top tether. Additionally, a blind spot camera is optional equipment; and an active tyre pressure monitor is optional on the internal combustion version and standard on the EV.
With all optional safety equipment fitted, both versions of the Nexon achieve the highest overall rating of "Best Pick", (also awarded to the standard electric version). With standard equipment, the internal combustion version achieves the second-highest rating of "Recommended".
The highest trim level of Hyundai's Venue compact SUV now includes advanced safety assist technologies like a forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking for cars and other vulnerable road users, and lane support. This marginally improves its status in the 'Emergency Intervention' category.
Also updated is Hyundai's i20 hatchback, which improves its rating with standard equipment to the second-highest possible "Recommended", following the inclusion of electronic stability control and side body airbags and head curtain airbags as standard equipment.
The Honda Elevate midsize SUV will remain unrated until it becomes clear if it has reminders for the rear safety belts.
