The Hyundai IONIQ 5, a large electric hatchback, has been awarded 'Best Pick' by Gobar NCRAP for its safety features.
The IONIQ 5 puts up a strong show across the board, with a wide range of features that allow and encourage safe practices, avoid/alert of crashes, and are designed to protect occupants. The IONIQ 5 does, however, miss out on a '+' status for occupant protection as it doesn't feature advanced technologies like a far-side airbag, fitted even to its more expensive Kia cousin the EV6. Except for that, a local consumer crash test rating and compatibility with i-Size child restraints, the IONIQ 5's feature list covers most of what is assessed by Gobar NCRAP in 2024. Along with the BYD SEAL rated yesterday, the IONIQ 5 sits at the top of the entry luxury segment as far as safety equipment is concerned.
