Today, Gobar NCRAP is releasing the results of the second 2025 Gobar Gradings, evaluating eleven 4-metre SUVs to the new 2025 criteria.
The Kia SONET, Hyundai VENUE, Nissan MAGNITE and Renault KIGER all receive only C-grades for rear seat belt reminders. Both pairs of twins are incapable of detecting the presence of rear occupants, relying instead on a change of rear seatbelt status from 'buckled' to 'unbuckled' to start the audio signals for their rear seatbelt reminders, while activating their secondary visual signals regardless.
The Maruti Suzuki FRONX/Toyota URBAN CRUISER TAISOR and the Maruti Suzuki BREZZA also receive only C-grades for rear seat belt reminders, all omitting occupant detection.
Respite comes in the form of the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Tata NEXON, which receive A-grades for their rear seat belt reminders. Both cars have 'intelligent' reminders capable of detecting rear occupants based on weight.
On the other end of the spectrum are the Mahindra BOLERO and Mahindra BOLERO NEO. With no rear seat belt reminders, the veteran duo is left with a D-grade, although that is greatly overshadowed by the fact that their third rows have side-facing "jump seats" which omit seatbelts altogether.
The recently introduced Škoda KYLAQ could not be included in today's release as an owner's manual was not available online at the time of writing.
Detailed evaluation results, along with sources of information and additional comments, are available on the 2025 Gobar Grades page.
